Feel proud to be an Organ Donor, make your die a meaning

By Minakshi - Posted on 08 May 2010

“I’ve lived my life with many purposes. One day I will die, Will I say my goodbye with a benign purpose??Yes, of course, I will. I want to continue my breath, want to see the beautiful nature, want to feel the intangible and unconditional love of my loved people; I want to make people feel that I am here even when I am no more”….An unknown Icon

It seems words on air & dreams with open eyes but true that some people yet want to live there lives forever. They want to make there die a meaning. And these people stand at opposite of Death-Phobia. Expressing the same instincts, 63 years Vinod Raval, a retired Government Server, residing in a small town of Ahmedabad City, wants to make his die a meaning. Long months back, he was just in a chaos of people who were hearing saintly speech offered by a holy leader. In mid of the crowd, he saw some written slogan that mesmerized him to think in deep. What was it that urged him to be in heaven? It was nothing but a message about ORGAN DONATION. After all he decided to donate his whole body for the Medical purpose after his death. And not only he but also his wife aimed this wish. They both sit together and shared the ideas that would place them to be in heaven. He is not a pop celebrity but this of his decision made him an unknown icon in himself and also for those individuals for whom his organs are going to be transplanted after death.
Yes, this is just a one tale; there are N numbers of stories that really utter the meaning of ORGAN DONATION. But why people do not think like Mr.& Mrs. Raval, why do people say Organ Donation is against of their religious ethics? Why some of say, if after their death they donate eyes, kidney, heart, they will be born without organs in next berth? These misconceptions and myths have created prejudices in society for Organ donation. Majority of Indian people are pessimist or take Organ Donation as a Cynic way. They do have bigotries concerning the knowledge of Organ Donation that needs to be dispelled. Some of many are already aware of Organ Donation but they do not have clear directions. While thinking about harvesting organs from death bodies’ family members take their steps back because of fear in mind of illegal trading of organs by the doctors.
SHATAYU, a Non –profit Organization understood these problems and took a responsibility on shoulders in giving ample clear roadmap about Organ Donation in Indian traditional societies. SHATAYU is picked from the Sanskrit Literature that means ‘Live life of 100 years’. Yes, indeed, Organ Donation is not about cutting your spare parts of body but about to donate organs after the end of your lives. You know, when we die our body is gone to waste for burn or bury then why can’t we think to donate our organs after death to those who keenly want to live. Can we Indian people cross the boundaries of misbelieves and can gift the lives? In foreign countries, it is compulsory for death bodies to be given in harvesting of organs. But in India, people do not take this option. Understandingly, relatives are in grief when their loved one dies but can they think to make alive their dead loved one by opting organs to somebody else. Medical science says that one donor can save as possible as 50 lives by giving organs or tissues.
Some People might have questions that what is organ and what is organ donation? Illustrating it with a very common example of Speech, the smallest part in it is letter, when letters are combined they make word, when words are combined they make sentence, and when sentences are united they make speech. Similarly, the primitive and the smallest part of living organism is Cell, when cells are united they make tissues, when tissues are combined they make organ, and organs make body limbs. Organ Donation means taking out organs from the dead bodies to transplant them in another living bodies. Eye donation is very common, most of the people, following a celebrity Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, wish to donate eyes after death. Not only eyes can be donated but also other organs like Heart, Kidney, Liver, Lungs, Pancreas, Intestine, and tissues like skin, bones, none marrow, heart valves, corneas (Eyes), or etc. can be donated. These key organs can lease somebody a second renewed life.
I do not know you, he or she may not know you but yes you know you that you are an Unknown Icon in yourself and for those individuals for whom your organs are going to be transplanted after your death. You will be proud that you would have gifted a second life to someone.
The last but not the least, we do many charities and benevolent activities while at our lives but after our death we can gift life to others by donating organs.
